I will never forget the story my dad told us of how he got stopped at a police checkpoint and they collected his car papers for whatever reason and afterwards returned it to him and let him go. Shortly after he left them, he saw he was approaching another checkpoint and...
...for whatever reason, he just decided to check his papers before getting to the next checkpoint and saw that instead of giving him his original papers, the spawns of Satan had given him another paper. The paper said ‘this vehicle is a stolen vehicle’
He said he had never been more afraid in his life because there was a checkpoint ahead of him and he couldn’t move forward with the paper. Who knows if the previous officers had called ahead to alert them that he was coming and they should be on the lookout..
He parked the car and walked till he found a police station to tell them something. I can’t remember exactly what he told them but for whatever reason, they decided to not make a big deal of it and let him reach the station of the person who collected his papers...
...when he got there, he found the person almost as soon as he got there. He was like please you took my papers and gave me the wrong thing. Guess what the officer said without remorse? It was a mistake, come and take your papers...
...the day he said the story, all I could just think was the thousand different ways that story could have ended or how my dad was lucky and how many other Nigerians’ lives may have been ruined because some officer somewhere made a ‘mistake’ that we all know was not really one..
& then my dad was like, in this life just know the police is not your friend. If you can avoid them, avoid. & was telling me tips I had never thought of, like never allow a police officer be the one to open your car’s booth. If possible, be the one to step out and open for them
...because apparently, they could plant something in the car and put it in you and of course who’d listen to you then..

So truly, there actually needs to be a complete reformed with the police, SARS should just be scrapped..
