A thread of my subjective thoughts on @Joe_Davis's top notch call of Cody Bellinger's catch vs. the Padres:

(First, though: Watch this again and marvel!) https://twitter.com/MLB/status/1314060496396587008
1. He isn't talking as the pitch comes in, letting the crack of the bat resound.

2. Bellinger is immediately identified by name, and vividly - he's "twisting around."

3. "Still GOING" gets punched, as if that's the peak...

4. Yet "...he's at the WALL" finds a *new* peak!
5. There's a pause just to be certain that the catch was made (and also to allow the broadcaster's brain to process what it just saw).

6. "Cody Bellinger, a ROBBERY (punched!) of Tatis, keeping the Dodgers in front, 4-3" - summation, score, room for the analyst. I love it.
This is THE play of the Dodgers/Padres series.

In 25 seconds, Joe accommodates the game, rises to the moment, controls diction and voice, and works with his partner.

(The faux crowd sound was too hot, but I can understand the audio person's excitement in the moment.)
More importantly: There are broadcasters who know what to say but can't go big. There are others who go big but don't have the words.

This is everything. I'm awed by Joe's vocal range, words, and command. It's, in my opinion, as great as Cody's catch.

I love great broadcasting.
