1. When I was in Form 2 in Triangle we had a fresh UZ graduate as our History teacher. The guy planted a "dangerous" seed in us. He wld use the local issues around oppression teaching the Chinese revolution. By the end of the. year we had formed a political party LAVANOZ.
2. This picture was in People Making History book. The guy spoke about how in Triangle workers were not even allowed to eat a single sugarcane and how the prices of sugar were as expensive there as anywhere else. How the executives lived kuma "yards" & everybody else kuma section
3. That very day I went out and openly ate nzimbe. Was arrested by loss control. It had to reach Mr Buzuzu the Headmaster & my parents. The threat in Triangle was, if you were caught eating sugarcane your parents would lose their job. Fortunately my uncle had already lost his.
4. What really irked me was that Murray McDougall had not paid a cent for the 300000 acres that Triangle is yet the people he displaced could not even benefit from the dams, weirs and even sugarcane. McDougall had stolen & used forced labor to thrive
5. I was just 14 at the time but everybody understood the disparities that existed. This is why I supported land reform. This was back in 1995-6. As for Triangle and other estates, I felt at least 50% of the profits had to be shared equitably with the workers & communities.
6. I did not support the Mugabe land reform because it was doomed from the start. It was expropriation without an understanding of capital. The nature of humans lies in their desire for the desires of other man. Freebies are not incentive.
7. For commercial farms, I would have put in place a lease to buy clause. We give you 25 hectares that you lease for 10 yrs at a competitive rental. Agribank wld extend annual loans that are backed by your productivity.
8. If you perform, after 10 yrs you buy 12.5 hectares at discounted price and lease the remainder. There wld be a clause that the purchased 12.5 hectares wld be used only for agric at least for another 10yrs. They can be resold but with obligation to pay govt fair market value
