What makes me angriest is how many working class artists will be pushed out of a field that is already too wealthy & privileged. Maddening
& more true for young artists. So many kids, right now, are reconsidering their options. We are going to lose a generation of artists. & I
see & salute those of you who can be more hopeful today. But I’m not there right now. I’m so angry. None of this had to happen & it’s a
perfect storm of complete governmental incompetence & corruption plus widespread cultural indifference to theater plus reliance on how very
very SCRAPPY so many of us in theater are used to being & congratulated for being. Okay, but SCRAPPY doesn’t actually pay the bills. We
will lose people, talented people, people who have so much to give - bc no matter how strong & resilient they are, it’s too much to ask of
them. It never should be asked of them. I’m so sad and so angry. What a fucking shame.
TLDR; stop complimenting theater artists on how v “resourceful” they are & GIVE THEM RESOURCES to survive!
