So I heard that #EndSARS protesters in some cities are being attacked with tear gas, here is a thread on how to defeat tear gas.

1. Tear Gas 101: Contrary to its name, tear gas is a powder-like substance.

2. When a tear gas canister explodes, the powder sprays into the air and sticks to any moisture it can find -that means the tears in your eyes, the sweat on your skin, the grease in your hair, and the saliva and mucus that covers your mouth and airways.

What we can learn from the Hong-Kong and Chilean protests?

3. Every protest needs a team of people prepared to face and defend other protesters from crowd dispersal weapons like tear gas.

Lets call them Tear Gas Hunters or TGH for short.

4. Form a team of 6 to 20 well-protected protesters whose job will be to work in pairs and neutralize tear-gas canisters as soon as they are fired by the police.

5. These TGH must cover every part of their body. Have them wear long-sleeve cloths, bandanas or hoods for their head, protective gloves for their hands, high length socks, trainers/sneakers, swimming goggles for their eyes and gas masks for their nose and mouth.

6. Two ways for putting out the tear gas.

A. Tear gas cans are very hot, so use only a heat resistant-glove (the type used for handling hot baking pans or pots) to pick up the cannister, then dump it into a metallic container filled with water and cover it up.

NB: Improvise by using pots or buckets as the containment chamber.

7. B. Cover a canister with a traffic cone to stop the spread of the tear gas, and use the opening at the top of the cone to pour water on it to put the smoke from the canister out.

We could raise money for things like full face masks and heat resistant gloves, inflatable beds etc

No retreating until our demands are met.
