In the face of a new record of over 900 new COVID cases to report the @fordnation cabinet is holding an emergency meeting to approve new restrictions.

Notes:

1. The government is very late to the game which means we need tougher restrictions than if they had been proactive.

1/
2. Ford owes us an explanation of why we are so late to the game. What went wrong?

3. There needs to be accountability for the unclear communication from government that has contributed to the problem. Does Ford still have confidence in Elliott? Williams? Lecce?

2/
4. To earn support for new restrictions, government needs to give a clear why. Not just “we hope this will slow spread” but “here is the impact we expect to achieve, here is why we believe these actions will work, and here is the criteria for easing these restrictions.”

3/
5. Success isn’t just about what behaviours are prohibited, but also about what people can and should do to protect themselves and others from COVID and also to lead healthy lives. Clear advice on this and a clear articulation of what we’re working towards are needed.

4/
6. Government’s role in this isn’t just about what it prohibits but also about what it supports. It’s time to come up with the funds for safe school and childcare, testing tracking and tracing, and meaningful support for the restaurants gyms and any others directly affected.
