I think about this statement by @bellhooks at LOT:
"...I came to theory because I was hurting-the pain within me was so instense that I could not go on living. I came to theory desperate, wanting to comprehend-to grasp what was happening around and within me...."
"...Most importantly, I wanted to make the hurt go away. I saw in theory then a location for healing.

I came to theory young, when I was still a child."

That's from Theory as Liberatory Practice by #bellhooks
It was only when I moved to London that I realised that Britain's White (Imperial) Feminism™️ held theory in a visceral disgust.
It took even longer to realise why. What is Liberatory for bell hooks (and for me) is a threat to White (Imperial) Feminists™️ because it threatens their power adjacency to imperial capitalist white supremacist cisheteropatriarchy
Thankfully there are MANY feminists in Britain who do not subscribe to White (Imperial) Feminism™️ (although most are erased by the UK mediascape. And amongst them, I find my theory-loving sisterhood
