It’s not often that you wake up to this 👀
In case you’re wondering, I am at my naturalization ceremony. I’m becoming a U.S. citizen this morning, a dual U.S./UK national. It’s a socially-distanced ceremony but no welcome video from Trump @kumailn, just a letter.
Here’s the ‘fellow American’ welcome letter from Trump that I got. It’s not bad, by his standards. But he obviously didn’t write it - not just because of the pro-immigrant sentiment but also...there are no typos or spelling errors in it. I’m so used to his random Capitalizations.
Yes! This is what I was most interested in getting:
These are kind of fun too:
On a serious note, btw, I still think U.S. foreign policy is often a mess and a disgrace, involving a multiplicity of crimes and abuses (see WoT, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc) and I will, as a new U.S. citizen, and now an *American* journalist, continue calling it out.
Remember the words of James Baldwin? “I love America more than any other country in the world and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.”
Anyways, back to the oath ceremony. Took the oath. Congratulated my fellow immigrants. Got the naturalization certificate. It’s done. I’m officially a citizen of the United States and ready to vote, weeks before the most consequential U.S. election of our lifetimes.
