Disability shoutout - so im autistic and i want to use my platform to share my difficulties, so when i succeed in areas, others can believe they can to! Right now im feeling so overwhelmed from doing my shopping that i want to pass out (1/?)
I have an unspoken deal even in this pandemic and rules with my local supermarket - they know i get overwhelmed - they allow me to sit in the entrance to collect myself, pack up my shopping properly before i order a taxi home. Its crazy how much small things like that mean (2/?)
To someone with difficulties - 4 yrs ago i did litterally pass out from all the triggers from shopping that my friends had to get me home themselves - assiting me into the taxi and making sure i got in the door - still need a carer just in case but its not always possible (3/?)
Carers are often either mum, my brother or my partner. They help me stay above water - i still feel like im going to pass out at times (loud sounds, too many people etc kinda triggers) but i know its part of my diagnosis now. Its all about learning ways around it! (4/?)
Distraction is often an awsome help with times i only have myself - i use stimming items like this half teddy half stress ball - its firm enough that it tskes more effort to squeeze it, but the material is soft and comforting. Ive learned not to be embarrassed with it! 5/?
So reason for sharing is to help anyone realise its ok whatever you need to ise in order to cope and be independent - don't allow anyone in your life belittle your independence coz u need.. Say a cute narwhal stress teddy... To be an adult. Ive succeeded coz of it! (6/6)
