The decline of marriage has not been the liberation for women a lot of feminists thought it would be. The entire legacy of the 60s has freed predatory, irresponsible men to indulge their sexual fecklessness & vice. (Not a v original point, see @Louise_m_perry & co)
But it can't be repeated often enough. Sure, the status quo pre 60s had its repressive elements, but it at least put some customary limits on male behaviour. The anarchy that has prevailed since has eroded the social constraints on male licentiousness & women have paid for it
Because the reality is that casual sex, failing to commit to long-term relationships, the culture of thinking that anyone who is in favour of limits on sexual behaviour is a 'prude' has benefited a certain kind of (dodgy) man most. Most women get little out of this culture.
The pill might have 'liberated' women from the constant risk of being pregnant, but it also (again, this is not my point, it is @Louise_m_perry's) created the male dream: nubile young women who don't get pregnant. Freedom from biological limits has meant licence for the strong
Of course, there are elements of the status quo pre sexual revolution that we don't want to go back to. But strong customary limits & norms surrounding the desirability of marriage, gentlemanly male behaviour, the importance of responsibility and sexual restraint are Good Things
And yes, of course the dark side of male sexuality has been there, prostitution in the Victorian era etc etc. But shedding even the pretence of standards of decency has made things worse and more shameless - leading to the modern day dystopia of the porn industry, trafficking etc
We have to shed our absurd reluctance to state the obvious. It boggles my mind that statements such as 'marriage is good', 'porn and prostitution are wrong', 'children are best bought up by two biological parents' (not to mention 'drugs are wrong') have become so controversial.
