here’s a hot take before i go to sleep: every single k-pop artist should be considered pop first, k-pop second. their koreanness and k-idol origins should not mean their art is considered an Other or a subgenre. k-pop artists deserve space next to any english language pop artists
the term k-pop should only be used to examine or identify the nation, culture and industry around them. it should not be called a genre. if fifth harmony and one direction and ed sheeran and pitbull can all exist on the same pop playlist, so can any korean pop artist

yes and the style and aim and native industry of shakira versus the style and aim and native industry of drake are quite different and yet they can share the Pop title
