As we approach the final months of 2020, it& #39;s probably becoming a good time to have a talk about next year.
Specifically, cons happening next year.
Don& #39;t stop reading, this isn& #39;t going to be *that* thread again. In fact, probably the opposite of what you expect.

It& #39;s getting to the time of the year where the following year& #39;s cons typically start planning (or are already planning.) This year might not be so different. Contracts are usually signed well in advance, sometimes years. Those contracts are with struggling venues like hotels.
Many of these venues have now been working on "safety plans" for the past few months, gearing up for when the various state/local powers allow them to have events again.
That& #39;s starting to happen in some places, either by choice or through judicial means.
That& #39;s starting to happen in some places, either by choice or through judicial means.
This means the ol& #39; "Force majeure" that we talked about so much earlier this year would no longer apply. In this case, there would no longer any reason all parties could not fulfil the contract. The choice to cancel would lie solely with the con.
I& #39;ve heard from a few sources inside the con circuit that this is a growing concern. It& #39;s starting to look more and more likely that some cons will basically have the choice of either at least starting to organize for 2021 or risk there no longer being a con.
All of this with the added uncertainty of what will be happening 6-12 months in the future.
Dr. Fauci says he expects a vaccine to be approved before the end of the year. Maybe not on Trump& #39;s timeline, but still.
Treatments for COVID are also coming.

So you may see why canceling/bankrupting your August con in January might not be an appealing choice.
The bigger problem right now is the optics. A few have suggested they are holding off as long as possible to announce 2021 planning because they are worried about Twitter Mobs.

So, TL;DR: If you see a con tweet about rooms opening in the next month or two, please don& #39;t attack them. Nobody is trying to hurt anyone. Nobody is ignoring what is going on in the world. Assume good intent.
