When I think back to my corporate days, I’d often meet new starters as part of their ‘Meet & Greet’ schedule and for some I’d think ‘You’ll do well here’ and for others I’d think ‘You’re going to struggle’. You can only do so much to help guide them.

Organisations suffer when well-intended hires fail because they’re unable to recognise and grasp the culture.
This can be addressed if we seek to understand what new starters aren’t able to do efficiently. I’ve found ‘gaining support for new ideas’ a key to assimilation.

Some may bulldoze their way to support, some may corral support, some are more collaborative, some will lift and shift what worked in their previous organisation.
