This protest is not the end. Even if they #EndSARS today, we must remember that the fight is for a better Nigeria, and that this set of leaders have failed us. The journey to the Nigeria we all deserve begins now, it begins this very minute.
As youths, it’s about time we asked ourselves honest questions. Questions like how politically involved in Nigeria we are. How much do we know about effecting political change in our country?
If tomorrow, these old men decide to hand down power to us, and we become the governors and ministers, what policies would we implement. What style of government would we run. Do we even have any idea which direction to go?
It’s not enough to clamor for change, we need to be ready for it; mentally ready now more than ever. Our heroes past didn’t seize power by being political illiterates. They were trained by the very people they displaced.
You do not go into a war unaware of your enemy and his vices. We need to properly arm ourselves with the knowledge we need to take control. I’m not asking that we all contest in elections. Rather, I’m asking that we learn enough to know those we want to contest and win.
We don’t all play football or sing professionally, but we know enough to judge who the GOATS are. We need to get to that level politically as Nigerian youths. Only then can we say we did our best.
This protest is not the end, but for it to be the beginning of something great, we need to collectively get involved. It starts from individuals, then the homes, then the communities. You learn enough to teach the next person, and we grow from there.
3 years from now I hope we can look back and say that we did our best, and that our best was good enough. I hope that come 2023, we make intelligent moves that urge us to a better Nigeria.
This is not a thread for the woke. This is a wake up call to myself and to everyone who is sick and tired of the animal farm in which we find ourselves. I really hope this is enough. #LiberationGeneration
