Another story of GOP double standards - what surprises me is Dems haven’t used all this against GOP whenever the “Court packing” accusation is raised”: https://twitter.com/JeffreyASachs/status/1314274900954304512
My sense is Dems are trying hard to keep discussion off the SC and GOP are trying to push it there - because the latter would like to make the race more of a culture war & Dems want to keep focus on health/economy.
But the failure of debate moderators/journalists to educate themselves on GOP activities in relation to state Supreme Courts is much more troubling.
Every time I’ve seen the issue raised it’s been my impression that media are couching it with the implication that it is Dems, much more than GOP, trying to break long established norms. Dems don’t perhaps help themselves by ducking q but misleading of media to omit GOP record.
There are still legitimate arguments in my view as to whether adding justices is a good policy but this thread shows v clearly that the GOP has already gone far down that path & have little justification to complain were their opponents to retaliate.
