I've been thinking about the "not understanding Jin" thing and here's my theory: Jin was on a different trajectory than the rest of them when they started. was less hungry, for lack of a better word, than theirs. Which isn't to say he didn't work hard (Jin had to work harder, actually) or he didn't want to succeed as much as they did, but his motivation came from proving something to himself vs proving something to the rest of the +
world. The other members were seeking validation/approval/success *externally* and looked at Jin the same way others assessed them because that was what they're familiar with.
