Completed 3D All Stars (getting all course stars without stressing about 100/Red/Blue/Purple coin stars and comet stars). First time completing each game, extended notes in replies.

prev exp: beat the first floor as a child, wandered aimlessly in bros save files
pros: hubworld, 45 degree camera rotating plus d-pad for tight jumps
cons: flying mario, linear "get slightly further" levels, i was too much of a completionist to run on infinite staircase

prev exp: played for short intervals at friends houses, never rented or owned it
pros: PRETTY, distinct level feel, best boss battles in mario (not sayin much)
cons: glitchy mess, reused star tasks (chase baby bowser 11 times??) worst game to 100%, weirdly short?

pros: soundtrack, endlessly creative level design (more consistent than 64, more diverse than sunshine), book
cons: surprisingly bad camera, too many comet stars, worst boss battles, not being able to use r to crouch jump
