Some tools I use to beat #depression as a dev, here goes hopefully it helps someone out there in the #DevCommunity

👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾
#1 List of Three

Really simple, I take the three most important things I need to get done and write them down. Pen & paper, notepad app, todoist, whatever makes your boat float it doesn't matter. If I get two of these done, it's a good day. All three? I'm winning 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Point being, COUNT YOUR WINS! No matter how small.

Quick chat to gain clarity, that's a win. Sketched out an idea, that's a win. Wrote some code and appropriate tests, that's a win. Learnt something new, that's a big win!

Regconise the progression you are making
#2 ASK FOR HELP

ASK FOR HELP!

Yup, typed it twice. The sooner you get comfortable doing it the easier it becomes. Rome wasn't built in a day nor by a single person.

Personally this has helped me grow and taught me the invaluable skill of teaching others
#3 Perfection is Incremental

This one took sometime to realise but Lord knows my eyes are now open.

No matter how well the architect plans the building, only the builder determines the finish.

Set clear goals for the piece you are working on and tick them off one by one.
It resonates believe me, my commits are way more targeted. Commit messages are clear making it easier to pick things back up, especially if I've had to stash some work to jump on something more urgent
#4 Work is work, Home is home

Some may disagree but the separation helps me a lot. You don't need to work every hour under the sun.

Take time to destress and relax. Tie up loose ends daily, your mind will thank you.

Burn out it really real, like really!
#5 Learn on the job

It's okay to not have all the answers or experience necessary for a task. Focus on problem solving and you'll be fine.

I try to get in 1 hour of training a week. Why not watch a small video at the start of your working day?

Seems small but it adds up
Finally and this is the MOST IMPORTANT

HAVE FUN!

Perspective is gold.

"How do you keep smiling despite the stress?" I asked on the brink of quitting that day. "I try to see the positive in every situation" Ian replied.
What Ian said changed everything for me, I'd go as far as saying I wouldn't be where I am today without his reply.

It was a torrid time for him, failing project, manager breathing down his neck. 2 roles later and I'm back working with him again, the rest is history
