I'll never come here and lie to people that my brand of fiery journalism is solely down to individual moral fibre and personal courage.

I have those things, but they are only half of the story.

The other (more important) half is money, influence, access and information.
Money - I have independent income not tied to Nigeria or denominated in NGN. I can disappear anytime I want.

Influence - I come from a powerful family.

Access - Connect the dots...

Information - I've lived, worked and schooled on 3 continents. I know things and people.
For those who don't have these 4 things and go into journalism, it is unfair and absurd to expect them to put themselves in harm's way.

The Fela you people worship could only be Fela because he was a rich kid from an aristocratic family.

Couldn't have been Musiliu from Agege.
Nigerian journalists don't even have collective insurance packages to ensure that in case of injury or death, their families won't be stranded.

The protest is one day to you.

It's EVERYDAY to a Nigerian journalist.

When it doesn't directly concern you, do you care?
If you want to stand up for something, do so.

Don't expect Chukwuma Adekunle Ciroma working for Punch Newspaper or AIT News to die for you when his colleague died for you last month, leaving a wife and 3 children - and you've forgotten and moved on.

Nobody owes you their life.
