Tenet thoughts, a thread:
*No spoilers.

Like in Interstellar, Nolan taps into a physics concept and takes it to the extreme where it becomes metaphysical, even mystical, to deliver an intricate story that will leave you clueless.
The key to untangling this thread lies in understanding the concept of time as a physical property rather than a mere perception of the conscience.
Like matter, time ‘exists all at once’. This means: everything that happened and will happen is developing right now, at this very instant, at the same time. Like matter, which exists regardless of you seeing it, future and past ‘happen’ regardless of you ‘being’ there.
Enter the concept of entropy. The same way you move through matter, e.g. you traveling to the city to see skyscrapers, you could, theoretically, ‘move’ to different times if it where physically possible.
Problem is that we can only move forward through time. Matter cannot travel backwards, that’s how it works. This causes the illusion of time as something that flows and takes us forward. In reality it is us, binded by entropy, who travel in only one direction.
This is entropy, the direction that matter takes in the ocean of time. Matter travels from order to chaos. From the absolute order of genesis, where everything was condensed into one particle, to the inevitable end, where everything evaporates into cold gas.
So, what if we could reverse entropy? This idea is the centerpiece of the movie and, as most of Nolan’s work, it serves a complex plot and character development. I definitely recommend seeing the movie. It is fun on its own but very profound once you dig into the physics concepts
