If your child’s school / district leader “stands up for kids” by bashing teachers and spouting right wing talking points perhaps ask them if they’ve stood up for kids in the last decade by... [1/1000]
Ensuring all children have a culturally relevant curriculum that meets the academic and social emotional needs of all children?
Advocating for access to mental health services, medical & dental care, and other wrap around support services in the school building?
Taking concrete steps to desegregate schools and classrooms?
Guaranteeing their families have access to information in their home language and have a real say in school / district governance?
Committing to eliminating suspensions and classroom removals and instead implementing multi-tier restorative practices?
Respecting teacher demands for reasonable work loads and fair compensation?
The list can go on and on, and none of us are perfect, but let’s not let them weaponize “standing up for kids” when the only person they’re standing up for is themselves.
