ppl on the internet getting their 15 mins of fame are *actually* just like us and all of us are all "problematic" & have been "problematic". it is 100% unrealistic to expect anyone you meet, much less see a video of online, to have a clean track record in every axis of oppression
i think digging for this kind of information is indicative of the growth of stan "culture" & the mixing of social justice into those spaces. stanning = uncritical, undying support of your fave & its even better if your Fave is not Problematic
stanning is supposed to be praxis now, and that praxis is best exemplified in "too bad about (celebrity who did horrible thing) stan unproblematic (fave) for clear skin!" so the way internet """celebs"""" fit into this is that people dig to make sure this person they& #39;re going
to uncritically support & "love" is "unproblematic" - something no person can fulfill especially a regular person with a much messier, intimate relationship with social media
unproblematicness & the validity of apologies depends heavily on how we already see the individual, how important the individual is to the public, what the individual gives us. while we can toss tiktok celebrities to the side, we can make many more excuses for
movie stars or musical artists. i know i do lmao.
