After serving 3 years under a head coach that played 17 years overseas and 3 years in the CBA when they were still pushing out guys like Rafer Alston, Raja Bell, and Bruce Bowen, playing at the highest level only helps with coaching if you can coach. https://twitter.com/runthecity3021/status/1314353106516312077
We had an Assitant that used to coach Clayton state and won some titles. Was in retirement but helped out with the coaching, make a long story short he was practically the real head coach and we all listened in practice. His highest level was just D1 back in the day lol.
To end this thread coaching is coaching. Jeff Van Gundy played at Nazareth and still went to the finals with the Knicks and was a good coach for the Rockets. Coaching at a high level and playing are two different things.
Like I said it helps ONLY IF you can take what you know as a player at that level and coach and many have a hard time doing that. They still believe they are a player and expect the most of kids lol, not their fault that’s how they’re wired.
