It's now painfully clear.

Our founders got it right. They built safeguards into the system to prevent what is happening from happening (though they clearly anticipated it). Impeachment. 25A. 2A.

What they never considered was the possibility that one chamber of our

legislature...the one that is SUPPOSED to be filled with independent "elder statesmen" with the ability to act more freely from the influence of the whims of the electorate and, thereby, protect the nation and her institutions from BOTH the Executive AND the People themselves...

could become so corrupted that when barely a majority of that body (the US Senate) sought to advance their own selfish and fringe wishes, they could put this entire nation in peril by acting against our Constitution and their very oaths.

Today just 53 men and women have held the

fate of this nation in their hands. People like @senatemajldr and @LindseyGrahamSC and @senrobportman and @SenTedCruz and @marcorubio. They have violated their oaths and obligations under the Constitution and have decided to use their narrow majority and the perfect storm of

an unstable, irresponsible, greedy, easily - manipulated, self - serving fool in the White House and the horrors of a deadly plague to take advantage to force their non - representative and reactionary agenda onto this nation - regardless of the harm to and price paid by the

people of this land and our reputation in the community of nations on this planet.

We look at Trump and his administration and his followers as the problem. And, indeed, they are problematic. But with a properly - functioning legislature, it should have never come to this. It

didn't need to. But these 53 men and women took advantage of the situation...and over 220,000 of our fellow countrymen's lives, the health of millions more, our economy, our social stability, our civility, our national security, our institutions, and our reputation and trust

around the world have been lost as a result.

So, as we look at the cause of our situation (and look to the solution), yes - look to Trump and his madness and cronies and the conditions that brought such a creature into office.

But, more importantly, we need to hold the 53

Republican Senators responsible for exploiting the circumstance, disregarding their sacred duties under our Constitution, and paying for their fascist, greedy agenda with our blood, our wealth, and our soul as a nation.

What they have done is unforgivable. Criminal.

Treasonous. Immoral. Selfish. Evil.

We need to START with using the only remaining power we have as a people, DEMOCRACY, to legally remove as many as we can from office in a few weeks, and then making sure that their roles in this fiasco and their interests that drove them

are unearthed one by one and they are held accountable for it.

These 53 men and women have betrayed us, our founders, and the idea that is the United States of America. Period.

Trump is bad. But they are incalculably worse.

God help us to salvage and heal this great nation.
