CW Hunting for food

I’ll start with 2 things ppl probably wanna know—i STRONGLY support gun control n am fully against trophy hunting. https://twitter.com/miamercuryart/status/1313571023900471297
I never thought about it much before I got into this family :) I’m a city girl. Until I met my now-husband, I didn’t even see the point of hiking lol. The 2nd (??) time I met his parents, they had just got a deer b4 we arrived n needed help processing it. https://twitter.com/thekappachris/status/1314245403085283329?s=21
My job that night was washing blood off things. It took us 4 maybe...iirc 6ish hrs?? And that was only part one (skinning, gutting, quartering n cleaning.) the quarters would be kept in a fridge for some time, then part 2+ commences— making sausages, hamburger, steak, jerky etc.
To answer the question of when my perspective shifted, it wasn’t until after I took a hunting course for my hunting license. Previously I still found the entire thing annoying, unnecessary, tedious (albeit interesting)—why SO much time n effort when we could just go to Costco!!!?
I learned the ecological aspects, n learned some classmates only ate meat that was caught, not farmed, for humane / environment reasons. Around that time I also started becoming aware of what lives farmed meat actually had, n it was upsetting. These were my main turning points.
Speaking of licenses, here iirc people need two to go hunting— one is the hunting license , which you can only get after the hunting course and passing the test (CORE). You also need to get a gun safety license , with the course, test and background check. https://bcfirearmsacademy.ca/events/category/core/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw8fr7BRDSARIsAK0Qqr4Avlu2wvXJ8DwL7OcSEhIJe149HM0Sc9hdXUdzPrqzKWiQbQqhTAsaAtXJEALw_wcB
FIL is huge on hunting/gathering, which kinda roped in Husband, which kinda ropes me in lol. They usually go out the 2 of them with gun for deer, goose, duck or grouse. Sometimes crossbow depending on the regulation dates, bc open season on weapon/type of animal varies. https://twitter.com/astitchofpearls/status/1314253179132018688
I’ve tried shooting rifle and shotgun before but only on stationary targets. I don’t ever plan on shooting an animal myself bc our priority is efficiency and 1-shot kill, which doesn’t happen with ppl who only shoot a couple times a year 😅
