The run was 70% smaller than estimated.

There is not nearly enough food available to get all of the dogs over the winter. This means people in these rural communites might be forced to sell, give away or do worse things with the dogs they love and need for their work and life.
The above GoFundMe was organized by @SalmonStephAK, Director of the Yukon River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission.

They asked dog food companies for help, and thankfully @Purina donated the above 35,000 lbs of Kibble and will also cover transport to Fairbanks, AK.
So hey, all's good! Why the need for money?

I am so glad that you asked!
Here, please have a look at this map* showing the Alaskan road system (roads in yellow).

It's as simple as that. There are no roads. All traffic has to be done by air, which is very expensive.
Why do I think that us #UglyDogs can help?

Because I remember Shaktoolik, when amidst the first Covid panic the village had to close down during the Iditarod, and they decided to build a sheltered checkpoint outside of the town to support the mushers. https://twitter.com/BlairBraverman/status/1239358662189047808
Because who, if not us #UglyDogs can understand what it would mean to give away a beloved dog that you cannot afford to feed anymore.

And because we are many and we have shown that we can move the earth by doing small things.

If you can donate, please do so, no matter how much.
I am seeing not nearly enough tweets about this, and my reach is by far not large enough to get enough exposure, but if enough of us retweet, we might move something, again.
Thank you so much for your time!
Please have a Lumi wishing no dog would ever go hungry.
Dagnabbit!
Y'all are retweeting so fast that Twitter keeps freezing up for me!
I'll swear all of you will get a thank you Lumi, and if it takes a week.
