1) Personality.

Rayla and Korra are very similar in personality. They're both fighters who hang on to traumatizing events. For Rayla it's leaving the elves and failing her mission that led to their "deaths". For Korra, it was being poisoned and almost killed in the avatar state.

They would also sacrifice their own lives to make the world a better place, for example Rayla at the storm spire and Korra fighting Zaheer before he poisoned her to save the air nomads.

They also had to live with their parents false failures, and that tainted their way of thinking. Rayla thought that her parents ran away when really they saved Zym. Korra thought her dad was banished for almost destroying the North due to letting loose angry spirits....

when really Unalaq made a plan to take his place as next in line, plotted for Tonraq to upset the spirits, and rigged the trial.

Korra and Rayla are also quick witted and where skilled fighters from a young age. They both can also be impulsive and make decisions quickly, not knowing if it will turn out the way they want.

Korra and Rayla always have a need to prove themselves worthy. Two early examples are when Korra wants to prove to her teachers she's mastered fire and was ready for air, and Rayla when she leaves to kill Ezran to prove Runaan wrong.

While Korra and Rayla may be a little different, they share a lot of similar qualities.

Now you may be thinking "how the fuck are mako and callum alike? callum is literally baby while mako is an eMo bAd bOy."

They're not too similar, but let me explain.

Mako and Callum are both very emotional. They get frustrated easily and rely mostly on their emotions to get through. But due to loosing their parents, they tended to bottle up their emotions and get angry.

We see this when Callum confronts Rayla about Harrow's death after Claudia tells him and Mako in every waking moment of book 1.

Another example of when Callum lets emotional take control after bottling it up is when Rayla leaves to go save the dragon and he's scared and frustrated for her and also mad at Claudia.

Another thing that makes Callum and Mako so similar is their relationship with their brothers. They're both very protective of their younger brothers, knowing they have to sort of be the pseudo-parent for a while.

Callum is always taking care of Ezran, protecting him from getting hurt, making sure he's okay after Callum finds out about Harrow's death, and is proud of him no matter what.

Mako was very different than Callum, mainly because they were put into two very different situations. While Callum is a prince, Mako was left on the street with his brother to die after their parents passed.

He had to discipline Bolin in order to survive. He may have been harsh, but he knew they were desperate. He made decisions that would help him and Bolin benefit. He also had a soft spot for Bolin, allowing him to keep Pabu after stealing him.

Also, unimportant, but they both where red scarfs and can blow lighting out of their fingertips and I think that's lovely

2) the way they interact with eachother

THROUGH THE MOON SPOILERS AHEAD

now season 2, korra and mako were fluffy assholes at some points when they weren't fighting (this will be important in a second). rayllum also had a lots of fluffy moments, but like all couples, they fight.

Korra and Rayla usually have the same point, that it's their duty to get the problem fixed. Then Callum and Mako refute with that they're making a rash decision and that they had to get involved before they did something stupid. Then they go back and forth...

until one says something very hurtful and they part. This can be seen when Korra fights with Mako about telling the president her plans and when Callum and Rayla fight in through the moon about rayla not being able to let go.

1) Love Interests

Both Mako and Callum had a black hair, green eyed, daddy issues love interest before Rayla and Korra that put an trust/romantic obstacle for the two. Claudia was an obstacle for Rayla to get Callum to trust her. Asami was more of a romantic obstacle for Korra.

3) Alone
TTM SPOILERS
Both Korra and Rayla had/will (probably) have alone episodes. Korra leaves her friends because she cannot face her past due to her trauma after she was poisoned. Rayla left in the middle of the night in ttm because she found out Viren was alive...

and she didn't want anyone to risk their lives for this because she felt she couldn't loose anyone else like she lost her family. Especially Callum, because everytime she's ready to sacrifice herself for the better, he risks his life to save hers ( dark magic, storm spire).

Though Korra and Mako broke up and didn't last (korrasami 4 life), we can still have hope for Rayllum because TDP isn't TLOK, Callum isn't Mako, and Rayla isn't Korra. I can't wait to see what the saga brings us and how these characters grow.

also I'm comparing Mako and Korra platonically because I don't really like Makorra. (no offense if you like them, it's just not my thing because I'm too much of a korrasami )
