Monaco’s squad for the 2020/21 season.

Good work from Paul Mitchell in his first summer in the principality. After two seasons of declining performances and managerial turmoil, I expect Monaco to finish within the top five this season.
At €14m + €3m in bonuses, Axel Disasi can be one of the signings of the summer. He’s only had 1 season in the elite, but Reims are already feeling his absence.

Reims finished 6th last season, conceding 21 goals. They’re currently 19th, having conceded 10 goals in 6 games.
Disasi is proving to be the center back partner that Benoît Badiashile needed — they’ve formed a solid duo together despite both being relatively raw defenders. Both are set-piece threats, assured in the air, and impressive on the ball, Disasi has fewer concentration errors too.
Florentino Luís struggled in his debut vs. Brest — slow to recover on the counter & too conservative in his passes. But he’s barely played in the past year for Benfica and if he can get consistent minutes, he can be the #6 Monaco need. Kovač has a plethora of options in midfield.
Perhaps the most impressive facet of Monaco’s window? Their outgoings [ @francefootball].

Monaco have offloaded a ton of dead wood this summer, and even so, there are still quite a few fringe players such as Samuel Grandsir, Jemerson and Youssef Aït Bennasser still at the club.
Monaco have shown plenty of signs of fight — coming back from 0-2 down to draw Reims, beating Strasbourg with 9 players — but they’re struggling for consistency. Kovač needs to find a way to make the attack click — Ben Yedder is out of form and Volland has been average so far.
One thing that is concerning, apart from their in-game consistency, is the lack of physicality in attack.

Ben Yedder formed an excellent duo with Islam Slimani under Jardim last season, but under Kovač, he seems too uninvolved in the build-up & lacking in confidence & sharpness.
