Dear Everyone:
What's more important than a child's "need to return to a sense of normalcy" (THE WORD IS NORMAL, YOU FUCKERS) is the need to remain healthy and not increase their risk of contracting and spreading a potentially deadly virus.

(...more)
You know what students need to support their mental health?

A serious fucking sea-change in the way mental health is treated in this country, including the way mental health is funded in this province.

A LITTLE FOOTIE AT RECESS ISN'T GOING TO MAKE KIDS LESS ANXIOUS.
And understand that it's better to tell our kids that "wearing a mask at school might be the new normal" than to tell them "this will all end soon" or "we're worried about your mental health; no, we don't have the budget for a school counsellor, but here's some soccer."
So anyway, I think I have to go simmer the fuck down.
I just got a letter from our kids' school division about their return to extracurricular activities (sports only, because Jesus Himself knows that football is more important in developing a child's ....like... stuff than drama is) and I'm a little upset.
"Extracurr. play an important role...they enhance and support the physical, social, behavioural, and intellectual growth of students..."

BUT ONLY SPORTS. And never mind that we're still in the nascent stages of phase two pandemic growth, so whatever.
I'm just.

I'm just so angry right now.

This is the wrong time to introduce a return to team sports. It's also the wrong time to introduce a return to any extracurricular activities that don't involve proper physical distancing and non-contact but chess wasn't even on the list
And I feel like someone, somewhere is using kids to promote some kind of agenda, because when I read "returning to extracurr activities can help to support students' mental health and provide them with a much-needed return to normalcy" (THE WORD IS NORMAL, YOU DOLTS), I seethe.
More than that the ability to live in a world where people value evidence-based facts and not just hand-wavey statements about mental health, while they also see their schools unable to provide actual mental health support because there isn't enough funding for schools OR health
Kids need us to actually listen to them when they tell us what's upsetting them. It isn't not being able to sports. It's not being able to see their grandparents, or their friends, or go to the store at lunch, because there is a GLOBAL FUCKING PANDEMIC that overwhelms hospitals.
Don't tell me about a 'return to normalcy' (THE WORD IS NORMAL, YOU PUDMONKEYS) when I'm sitting here wondering how many businesses are going to close and how long we're going to have to keep our kids home from school after Thanksgiving and when the virus is going to explode...
