I am proud of my dyslexic strengths but school was far from easy, as one of the 80% of people who left school without a diagnosis I cannot stress enough how important it is for teachers to SPOT, SUPPORT & EMPOWER every dyslexic learner. The @BDAdyslexia also tells us that a student with dyslexia is 3.5 times more likely to be temporarily or permanently excluded and youth offending institutes have dyslexia rates of 31% to 56%. This shows how vital it is to #ConnectTheSpots #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek
We know that 73% of dyslexic people hide their dyslexia from employers, I would argue that this is related to only 3% of the public believing that dyslexia is a positive trait. We need to challenge the perceptions of dyslexia at work. #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek @MadeByDyslexia
To celebrate #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek in @NHSEngland the Learning Difference Group brought together @CNOEngland @clarepricedowd and @kate_griggs to explore the future of dyslexia in our organisation. 10% of our population are dyslexic so this is vital work for every employer.
We explored the strengths of dyslexia highlighted in the @MadeByDyslexia report and discussed how they have been an asset to our organisation; Visualising, Imagining, Communicating, Reasoning, Connecting and Exploring. #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek
To anyone who appreciates the value of dyslexia, I urge you to start the conversation with your colleagues, you will be surprised how many this effects. 10% have dyslexia & 73% won't have told their employers. Together we can shift perceptions of dyslexia #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek
