Stanley Johnson, the Stanimal, on a podcast today.
On NIck Nurse: “Nick is like a savant. Nick is too... just being around him and listening to him, as a basketball mind- I haven’t been around one better coaching wise.”
Stanley, who has notably also played with Dwayne Casey.

“I haven’t seen a coach be able to communicate as well as he can. His swag- like he just has it all going for him. He’s a great dude & you can just tell when he talks he’s being honest.”
- Stanley, who was memorably called out by NN at the stsrt of the year for being unplayable

“As a player you want that the most, someone who is going to tell the honest truth.
You can tell from game plan to game plan in the playoffs he’s putting his heart soul and mind into these game plans and he’s trying to help us be better. He’s really for US”.

Stanley,
“I was really surprised we got bounced in the second round. I thought we had the best coach in the league, best team in the league - best full unit.”

On Raptor’s Culture, and why raps are so effective at developing talent:
“I think it starts with Masai. Masai is really hard on us in ways, and expects us all do do our job really well. Especially for young players like me its all about getting better every day”

Stan says the whole organization from top down is excellent, no matter which role from front office to coaching.
“There’s nobody in the organization that doesn’t give 100% all the time, so it makes it easy for us to give 100%”.
This is now a StanFan Account.

Stan also says the vets set the expectation for the young guys, with how hard they work and expect the young guys to come up behind and follow in their footsteps.
“We work really hard. This is a business franchise, it’s all business. That’s what I’ve enjoyed the most about it”

Stan says that even with the year he had with injury and falling out of the rotation, he’s learned so much and taken so much away. He doesn’t think it’s a lost year and he’s excited to apply what he’s learned to next year.

On the upcoming Raps free agents:
“As a friend of these dudes I want to see them get paid at the highest level. But I want us to stay together... from what I hear of Masai and Bobby, somehow someway I think they will work it out” -Stanstradamus

Stan is asked about offseason plans - work on his handle and jumper (yes Stan great idea).
On if he’s going to be pulling up to Rico Hines: “nooooooo... bc of Covid, we can’t get into gyms. UCLA doesn’t want us in their gym”.
I assume this won’t impact Pascal’s solo work.

This is a great interview from Stan, on a podcast I’ve never listened to before Below the Rim.
Stan also speaks a lot on the bubble and restarting after the players strike. The backend of the interview breaks up a bit, but overall it’s really great. #episodeGuid=Buzzsprout-5786398">https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/below-the-rim-podcast/id1534757053 #episodeGuid=Buzzsprout-5786398">https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcas...
