Short thread on @4browngirlswho1, whose pamphlets I’ve been reading all day. PURE FIRE. Cohesive as a collective, yet distinct + strong. It’s exciting, powerful work that needs to be shouted about + feels like a set I’ll keep returning to. Here’s the pieces that resonated: 1/6
My mother wears a uniform everyday / and I don’t.

From Sharan Hunjan’s pamphlet Hatch.

As the child of an NHS nurse, I felt the power of this one deeply. Made me think about my own relationship to the uniform and what it meant.

Also, loved Fatherless. 💯

2/6
that curry smelling bitch - / who pushes through the crowd / and says her Jai Shree Krishnas.

From Roshni Goyate’s pamphlet Shadow Work.

Again, another poem that really made its mark: familial, comforting, and then hostile. Took me back.

Also, Colour-Blind is 🔥

3/6
Anytime I read ‘Patel’ in the papers, my stomach clenches like I’ve been personally attacked.

Fave passage from many faves in Sheena Patel’s This Is What Love Is.

Deep joy getting to know this voice. Was obsessed from the first para. Absolutely loved where this took me.

You drag your mother / to the bottom of the ocean by her hair / You leave her there

From Sunnah Khan’s pamphlet, I Don’t Know How To Forgive You When You Make No Apology For This Haunting

The poem I’ve returned to most today. 💥💥💥

Also loved I’m bored of bein’ brown 5/6
