Animation folks: I& #39;m curious how many of you actually broke into the industry through online/public job postings?
I& #39;ve heard so many recent grads ask the basic question of: "Where do I go to apply to jobs?" and I kind of don& #39;t know how to valuably answer them.

Full-time jobs I& #39;ve gotten through online postings: 0
I got all my internships through online postings, but I& #39;m not sure how much that counts because I often met the hiring folks at least casually at job fairs beforehand

For those curious, I got my first full-time gig (Gravity Falls) because I randomly heard a rumor from a classmate that they might be hiring, who encouraged me to contact a former teacher who had done character design work, who in turn gave me the email to the line producer
That ultimately led me to getting a storyboard test, and I know like? 30? people or so tested for the same spot? but I& #39;m not sure if the job position was ever listed online or how many people tested through that process.
Given that so many of us learned about jobs through friends/classmates.... what would you tell a recent grad without contacts in the industry? & #39;Networking& #39; is such a vague concept, and we ALL know people who do networking the WRONG way and end up looking & #39;sleazy& #39;/& #39;fake& #39;
