A few findings to share from my study into gambling amongst a cohort of students from a Dublin University. Utilising the PGSI to measure gambling and the DOSPERT to measure attitudes to risk-taking it was found that 5.7% of respondents identified as problem gamblers. 1/4
To put that in context the rate of problematic gambling amongst the Irish general population stands at 0.8% according to the NACDA. The rate of problem gambling in Northern Ireland stands at 2.3%.

A further 39.5% of respondents in this study identified as at-risk of 2/4
..developing a gambling problem. In total 15.1% identified as moderate risk while 24.4% of respondents were classified as low-risk, as per the PGSI criteria.

Perhaps unsurprisingly Gender was hugely significant with males considerably more likely to identify as PG or at-risk 3/4
..gamblers.

Regarding attutudes to risk-taking, there was significant correlation between problem gamblers and financial, ethical and health and safety risk domains.

Study also found correlation between problem gambling and excessive alcohol use and risky sexual behaviour. 4/4
