During almost the entirety of Wheeler's role as mayor of PDX, I worked in crisis and support services for people experiencing domestic, sexual, and trafficking violence.

It was during this time that the housing crisis, years in the making by Ted and friends, exploded.

When I first started, we would have maybe 50 requests for shelter (ANY shelter) go unmet in a month. I saw it rise to 100........to 200 a month....to 300 a month....to 600 a month. I haven't worked in that roll in a minute so who knows now.

Those are requests for ANY shelter in Multnomah. Anything with a roof. As far as DV specific shelter there are only a handful of beds (around 50) and people's length of stay in those beds ended up increasing along with the housing crisis. Meaning less turn over for new folks

Telling about 20 plus people a shift (most of whom are protective parents with children in their care) that there is physically NO space in shelter available for them and its unlikely they'll get a DV spot is outrageous. And it is absolutely crushing.

All of these are people in immediate danger. There is nothing like telling a person that you HONESTLY believe will be killed by their abuser that their main option is to camp on the street where they will also have to safety plan for predators, cops, and NIMBY's.

Its not uncommon for there to be little to no resources for survivors. When I was a kid there were far less.

But watching options for survivors erode and shrink away under Wheeler while realtors, developers, and landlords got unfathomably rich has been too much.

The housing crisis was avoidable. None of this needed to happen. Survivors could have had safe places to go. It was manufactured and brought about by the exact type of people that Ted Wheeler belongs to and comes from. Forever fuck Ted Wheeler and all who support him.
