This is another of my favorite Generate presets, this time from @MattLange . There are a small number of people who have been critical to Newfangled Audio’s success and Matt is probably first among them.
Matt is the first person I go to with a new idea and he always gives thoughtful and, when needed, critical feedback. Aside from that, he’s an amazing artist and sound designer, so if you don’t already listen to his stuff stop watching this video and go do so now.
There’s a lot going on in this preset, so let me break it down. The random stepping is coming from two sources:
1. The Sample and Hold output is tied to Chaos Amount, Folds, and Wavefolder Mix. This means that every eighth note gets a new randomly drawn value routed to each of these, and this is a different value for each voice, letting different voices taking prominence at different times
2. The step sequencer's downward ramp is tied to the LPG Freq giving it a rhythmic cutting sound with varying amplitudes. However, the step seq is set to play the steps in a random order, which again, is random per voice, so each voice takes prominence each eighth note.
3. Critically Matt is using the EQ. Always use the EQ.
4. Finally, Matt finished it off with a dotted eighth note delay and reverb. Putting a dotted eighth note delay on a straight eighth note pattern is a time honored trick to make you sound more interesting.
Thanks Matt!
Thanks Matt!
