I rarely see a young person engaging in Somali politics for the common good. They don’t represent their clan which is also the name of the game in the Somali context.

In my observation (you may disagree) most of the young people in Somalia are engaging in politics for two reason:
1-Access: (access to the highest offices) which allows them to be above the law, part of corruption, manipulation & of course to be in a decision making Position

2- As a source of income: (running from poverty and unemployment) job security is a big issue in Somalia and being part of an administration at least it gives you 4 years of job security.

The current administration has clearly approved that you are vulnerable if you are not part of the system, you can lose your job any time, you can not express openly your opinion, and you can easily be targeted in a made up corruption accusations.

As a consequence of the last four years, many young people are now running for posts to do the same or take a revenge.

My question is: when we say ‘more young people have to engage in politics’ Are we advocating for a continuation of corruption with different faces?

Same game, same rules, different players.
