I'm not against sex or fanservice, but when I spent my entire life watching my gender get dehumanized & subjugated to exist only as sexual objects for men - you'll have to excuse me if I'm wary whenever fanservice w/ female characters pops up.
Especially when it's coming from a company that has been getting progressively more blatant in their attempts to cater to a male audience w/ sexual fanservice. Or do you think it's a coincidence that the CS4 DLC costumes were almost entirely sexy costumes for the girls?
Or that Hajimari includes a disturbing VR minigame that is just the girls making sexy faces at you while wearing revealing swimsuits?
The real reason m/m ships are so popular in this fandom is because Falcom was so bent on catering to men's fantasies that the female bonding events had any characterization of the girls thrown out the window in favor of harem bullshit.
In other words, the girls stop being characters during these moments & instead just exist to be sexual objects. Which sucks and people notice that it sucks.
You know this is the real culprit bc if you go over to Toxan, a fandom that is 95% Trails fans -- the popular fandom ships are mostly m/f ones. All because the female characters DON'T get their characterization sacrificed in favor of da fanservice.
Anyway, my main point is people claiming people enjoying some fanservice while criticizing others are "hypocrites" are really off the mark and failing to understand that it's a complex issue with a long history of sexist bullshit.
People can enjoy fanservice and porn - but they can also have valid critical arguments against other pieces of fanservice because again, nuance is a thing that still exists in the world.
