A few thoughts on where we are at now: we closed in March ahead of the official lockdown as the health of our colleagues and guests was the most important thing. Closing was painful for us all, mentally and financially, unsure wether we’d have a business to return to.
We did it willingly hoping the government would get their shit together & use the time to get testing scaled up, track & trace operational and have the ability to have some sort of control when we re opened society. It was obvious there would be a 2nd spike at some point.
It didn’t happen in July when we reopened restaurants, it didn’t happen in August with EOHO, more time to get their shit together. Schools, universities with freshers who’d been cooped up for 6 months let lose in a new city.....hmmm let me think how that’s going to go!
It seems inevitable this is where the spike would come and yet testing fell apart and T&T seems a bad joke despite billions spent. The curfew, rule of six and single family rule as much as we hate them & no evidence to support them have resulted in empty restaurants so job done.
We’re faced with closing next week now, for how long? What happens in 2-3 weeks if the infection rates are still at the same levels? March cost tens of thousands & so will next week, reopening is hard and expensive, I’d imagine you’ll see some places not reopening at all.
I realise this is an incredibly hard situation for any government to deal with and in Liverpool in particular there are a lot of good people working really hard to support us but there must be a better way of dealing with this situation. Thinking of the next few months scares me.
Anyway, we’ve a new menu and I guess the weekend to trade it, we’ve done everything asked of us and more and will do again, stay safe x
Also, I really do believe we can operate safely for our colleagues and guests with the measures we have in place aided by what should be a functioning government response to the pandemic, it’s surely better to have a controlled bar/pub/restaurant to keep people safe
Rather than as we saw with uni students & the 10pm curfew, chaos on the streets & house parties. We’re all so fed up now, people want to socialise & the government lost their moral authority a long time ago, some people just won’t listen to them now.
