In this video with @RayCityFanTV1 I mentioned that it's Cancelo's time to shine and why Walker should be dropped. This THREAD, I'll explain the reason why I told that and the benefits of playing Cancelo at his favoured right back position. https://twitter.com/RayCityFanTV1/status/1313862489986265090
• We all know Walker doesn't overlap/underlap too much, which makes it easy for the opponents to mark KDB out of the game. The winger and the midfielder mark him which stops him from making overlapping runs(explained in the pic below) and getting those dangerous cross into play.
• Joao Cancelo's technique on the ball and attacking movement is top class for a RB. His strengths are his awareness, pace and especially his crossing and passing ability which is kinda an area where Walker is not strong. He also provides good timely overlap and underlap runs.
The main reason we struggle to score against teams that park the bus is because we have become predictable with our movements. The opponents have figured it out and come to the Etihad with a gameplan which is to mark KDB out which ultimately stops our creativity. Simple as that.
The 4 pictures below(with explanation) shows what Cancelo can provide against teams with deep block and why right now he is a better option than Walker. I'll repeat the point again, Cancelo's movements are just extraordinary for a fullback and he is very good defensively too.
Now, Cancelo can provide a solution against teams that park the bus and give us a different dimension if Pep plays him properly to his strengths. We also have quality CB's now and a double pivot which provides a defensive cover and I see no reason why Cancelo shouldn't start.
This doesn't mean that Walker is bad. Imo right now he just needs a break and it's a time where Cancelo can step in. Walker is a quality player who was our best defender last year, but right now Cancelo is in his prime and in form which makes more sense to start him.
