The more you absorb a specific interest into your personality, the more difficult if becomes to relate to you. If you're fine with that, cool, but I can't say I care much for "stanning".
I.e.: I don't like Metroid games. If the icebreaker topic is video games and you happen to "stan" Metroid and only ever talk about that, that conversation needs to change quickly. Even if I did like the games, that conversation still has a limit.
Same goes for me: this is why Final Fantasy isn't my go-to topic whenever games are brought up, because I'll meet someone who either doesn't like the series or doesn't care as much as I do. Multiple interests can really keep things going.
I've also found that people who take on an interest persona (i.e. the "Sonic guy", the "Mario guy", the "Zelda guy") tend to have the least interesting things to say beyond their self-advertised interest. This is obviously case-by-case.
I know it's somewhat ironic to post this thread as I currently have a Final Fantasy profile picture, but I always work towards keeping things fresh and not relying on the same topic for every situation.
