/ Once again we have the most inexplicable disconnect in #JoblessClaims. This morning's Initial (yes, INITIAL) Jobless Claims came in at 840k (a 9k drop from last week) while Continuing Claims dropped 1m to 10.9m from 11.9m, meaning IN ONE WEEK 849k + 250k got jobs. Really?
/ That no one, and I mean no one, questions this bizarre weekly #JoblessClaims behavior is just astounding. Not a single person has been able to reconcile this months long bizarre behavior. In fact, no one even questions it anymore (to the extent it was ever questioned).
/ It's almost as if no one really wants to know or understand why there is a massive disconnect between Initial #JoblessClaims, #Continuing #JoblessClaims and the monthly #Unemployment data. Financial journalists simply accept the data at face value w/o so much as a question.
/ You'd think @NickTimiraos @jeannasmialek @JamesPoliti @ChrisRugaber @byHeatherLong @boes_ or a journalist covering #Fed chair #Powell's monthly pressers or covering or #FOMC would ask, but nope. Read the transcripts of those press conferences. NOT A SINGLE QUESTION.
/5 It's as if @NickTimiraos @jeannasmialek @JamesPoliti @ChrisRugaber @byHeatherLong @boes_ are afraid to press #Fed chair #Powell or, worse, they don't actually see or understand how bizarrely irreconcilable #JoblessClaims data is. (Please retweet this thread.)
