Citywide, about 11 of every 100 renter households experienced an eviction filing in 2018. However, 25 out of every 100 renter households in Ward 8 received an eviction filing. By contrast, fewer than 3 out of every 100 renter households in Ward 2 received one. (2/5)
Evictions are concentrated in the hands of a small number of property owners. Only 20 landlords in DC were responsible nearly half of all eviction filings in the District in 2018, but they owned only 21 percent of all rental units. (4/5)
The fee to file for eviction in Washington, DC is the lowest of any major American city. Landlords can file for eviction for just $15 dollars. Lower filings fees are associated with higher rate of eviction filing. (5/5)
