1.3 million new unemployment insurance (UI) claims in week ending 10/3, 803K state + 464K PUA not seasonally adjusted (NSA). That's similar to the prior week, down 3%.

25.5 million Americans who were using UI the prior week on continued to do so, down by 1.0 million.
The U.S. has 6.5 million job openings, per #JOLTS data released Tuesday.

If every opening were filled by someone from UI, 19 million Americans would still not be able to find a job and rely on UI to make ends meet.

Unemployment insurance pays about half one's prior earnings.
