Unsurprisingly there has been a lot of buzz about Spurs in the #FPL world since the 6-1 battering of Man Utd on Sunday 🤩

But being the pessimistic, killjoy that I am, let me try to convince you that Spurs attackers, Son particularly, may not be the best buy this gameweek...
⚠️ The fixture ⚠️

Our next game in the premier league is West Ham at home. On paper, a good game. In reality, not so much

WHU have the 2nd best defense among those to play 4 games, according to xGC. Just 3.83 xGC so far having played, NEW H, ars A, WOL H and lei A (understat)
If you look at games specifically, in terms of shots on target allowed, just 8 (3,3,2,0)

But they're not just parking the bus, they're attacking really well too. They have an xG so far of 8.01 (over 2 per game) in tough fixtures, and have matched this xG with 8 goals.
On the opening day they performed woefully and lost 2-0 at home to Newcastle, but have since switched to a 5-4-1 system

In doing so they have very effectively reduced space for the opposition, who have dominated possession (62,64,69%) but got very few good chances from this
⚠️ Our games so far ⚠️

From 4 games we have 7 points, losing the Everton, unjustly drawing with Newcastle 😒, and thrashing Southampton and Man Utd.

We have scored 12 and let in 5

Against Everton we were awful, but are getting progressively better game by game
However, if you look at the goals so far, particularly Son's goals, you'll see that the majority come from exploiting space in behind against stretched defences, space which W Ham won't leave unless they go a goal or two behind early (not impossible but unlikely)

Saints game 👇
Man Utd game 👇

These all show us either counter attacking into space with quick direct balls from deep into normally Kane who puts it in behind, or in one instance a high press against careless playing out from the back

WHU will neither allow this space or play out like that
⚠️ FPL returns so far ⚠️

Also worth noting how much more effective we've been away, largely due to the opposition, as S'oton press high and leave a high line, and Man Utd were all over the place and then down to 10 too

Son H: 2,1
Son A: 24,18

Kane H: 2,5
Kane A: 21,16
The key thing in the home games was a lack of space in behind

Everton controlled large portions of the game v us and defended well. N'castle just sat back and allowed us to come at them, and tho Son was unlucky not to score, his xG in 45 mins was only 0.07, all from long shots
👍 The Good News 👍

For once I'm not all negative 🤪

Son and Kane are phenomenal players capable of something from nothing, and if we've got Ndombele/GLC both playing, we've got the creativity to cause WHU problems

They could easily return this GW, tho I don't expect hauls
Also on the plus side, the following 3 fixtures are kind

After WHU, its out of form Burnley (A), Brighton (H), and West Brom (A)

Brighton are somewhat similar to Southampton in their attacking style and do leave space in behind. West Brom are awful, as are Burnley right now
So if you do buy them, it has to be for this run of games. Do not be surprised if they blank GW5 vs West Ham, but do not lose patience as the better 3 games follow.

If it were up to me I definitely wouldn't captain a Spurs player this GW, and would probably wait to buy till GW6
Hope this thread has been of some use and helps contextualize our results so far. Good luck with GW5 in this utterly barmy season 🤞🥴

And as always, if I'm right shower me with praise to feed my ego, and if I'm wrong...
