PALESTINIAN KUFIAH ; A THREAD !

1. ( koofiyyeh, كوفية ) is a chequered black and white scarf that is usually worn around the neck or head. it is a symbol of palestinian nationalism, dating back to the 1936 – 1939 arab revolt in palestine.

2. the palestinian kufiah was first worn by farmers in order to protect themselves from the sun. as we know, the color white reflects all colors, therefore not absorbing any heat.

3. the kufiah is also worn by palestinians who loot israeli bases in order to hide their identity, as well as soldiers for the same reason ( to hide your face, it is usually wrapped around your head like this. )

4. it can also be worn by anyone who is trying to show support for palestine. it can be worn around the neck, wrapped around the head, or tied around your waist, or anywhere you want to put it !

5. do NOT use the kufiah as a fashion statement, or wear it only because it 'looks good'. it holds strong cultural significance and can't just be worn as a fabric of clothing by anyone. this would be considered cultural appropriation.

6. arabs all around the world wear kufiah !! it is not only specific to palestine, it has also been worn by lebansese people during their protesting. the kufiah is a sign of solidarity amongst all arab people and is culturally significant to all arabs !
