While flu and pneumonia were mentioned on more death certificates, #COVID19 was the underlying cause in more than three times as many deaths http://ow.ly/rQgQ50BMTmn
The highest numbers of deaths due to flu and pneumonia were in January 2020, but these numbers were below the five-year average in every month http://ow.ly/IRxT50BMTpK
Age-adjusted mortality rates for #COVID19 were statistically significantly higher than those for flu and pneumonia compared with both the five-year average and 2020 http://ow.ly/FgHr50BMTxx
In care homes, the proportion of deaths due to #COVID19 (30%) was almost double those due to flu and pneumonia (15.2%) http://ow.ly/q4nH50BMTDa
In every year since ONS monthly death records began in 1959, there have been fewer deaths due to flu and pneumonia from January to August than there have been deaths due to #COVID19 so far this year http://ow.ly/tysU50BMTIl
