How does a recruiter address questions such as: “There’s no AMA contract. So the Minister can basically just change the rules whenever he wants?” Or “If family considerations mean I can’t stay here, will I be forced to find a replacement for myself before I can leave?”’ 2/7

Or how about “They have said the RRNP will only be in place in its current form until March 31, 2021. What happens then? What about Conplex Modifiers with the same deadline?” Or maybe “Will the Minister go after the Physician and Family Support Program next?” 3/7

Or “What about the senior physicians there whom I will need to rely on for back-up or mentorship? How long will they stay?” I’ve been involved in rural physician recruitment since 2011. If you are asking a physician to move herself and her family to your community ... 4/7

... you need to understand what they need. They need certainty - that the rules of the game won’t be changed arbitrarily. They need mentorship and support from their colleagues. They need to be able to imagine a future that values their contributions to their community 5/7

... and where their partners and children can build meaningful futures as well. And let me make one more important point - which Central Zone Medical Affairs would also tell you if they could - it is much, much easier to retain a rural physician than it is to recruit one. 6/7

You have created a rural physician workforce disaster in Rocky and many other towns. It is a failure due to hubris - on you being unsafe to make the decisions you’ve made, unwilling to seek advice from others, and unaware of the consequences. So please, just sit this one out. 7/7
