a thread of explanations for things said in tonight's debate:
1. ❗the green new deal❗ is a piece of legislation backed up by @AOC that is, to put it basically, the most in depth climate change act that has ever been put out by any American congressmen/woman. it talks about putting taxes on nonrenewable resources and places money into +
things like public transportation. it will force coal companies to drive their pricing up, and make home owners switch to more renewable sources of energy because it will be the cheaper source. IT HAS NOT BEEN PASSED BECAUSE CONSERVATIVES THINK IT IS TOO RADICAL
2. ❗the paris climate accord❗ was a worldwide attempt at bringing every country in the world together to stop climate change. it made it so every country can set their own goals for being more environmentally conscious, and there was no consequence but shame if you could not +
reach said goal. A few years ago, Trump pulled out of this agreement that almost every country in the world was apart of. including North Korea. It is detrimental to society that America finds itself accountable for what we've done to this planet.
3. ❗Al-Baghdadi ❗was the leader of the terrorist group ISIS. during the debate tonight, Pence continued to praise the president about his assassination of this man. When the terrorist leader was killed, we had no time to celebrate because the president called american +
troops out of Turkey. Leaving our allies - the Kurds - alone. The Kurds do not have a country of their own, so they have the unique experience of being the minority wherever they go. They were helping us in Turkey, and the president left them there.
4. ❗Fracking❗ is the act of pumping water into the earth's crust so that it pumps oil out of the ground. THIS IS DETRIMENTAL TO THE EARTH.
please reply with anything else you feel needs an explanation so I can add onto this thread!!!
5. ❗ Foreign Affairs ❗ .if you are non american reading this thread, thank you for being here and taking the time to learn about american politics. thank you for understanding that this is not just an american issue. America as a country is so influential to other +
countries. Americans need to do more and learn about what's happening right now in other countries too. We need to be retweeting and speaking and screaming for those who can't. Americans can't just worry about Americans. we are one of the most influential countries in the world+
IF ANYONE'S VOICE IS LOUD ENOUGH it is American voices. scream for those who cannot, and educate yourselves for those who can't. it is not just America and american does not and will never come first. We all live on the same planet, we need to protect eachother.
