Kamala Harris initially refused to investigate and ultimately bring any charges against LAPD officers believed to be involved in the disappearance and subsequent death of a 24 year old mentally ill Black woman named Mitrise Richardson in 2009.

According to her family, she was having a severe bipolar episode when LAPD arrested her for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and dining/dashing.
They released her at 1 am w/o any of her belongings, despite telling her mother she could pick her up in the morning..

and being in a highly suggestible state. She would go missing and her remains were found a year later a couple miles from the police station but the cops removed her body before the coroner could inspect it.

AG Kamala Harris at the time replied she found no grounds for criminal charges against the LAPD sheriff or deputies and refused to investigate it. It was only when Harris could use the case for publicity as part of an election-year bid for US senate, did she agree to review it..

leading the family of the slain woman to call her a “phony who shouldn’t be leading us”...By that point the statute of limitations for tampering of evidence had passed. Don’t forget Kamala Harris’ lack of protection for Black women in the state of California as “top cop.”
